Cam and Charlie were both extremely
excited about their first ever fathers and sons camp-out with the ward.
Stella and I were looking forward to relaxing and enjoying a quiet girls
evening in. We got the boys all packed up and they headed up the road
to the camp site at the mouth of the canyon.
One hour and thirty minutes later, they were home.
Cam walked in and summed it up with, "he's a maniac!"
The
evening began with Charlie hoisting up a log twice his size and weight
and heaving it at an unsuspecting victim. Charlie was in heaven in the
dirt and playing with the older boys (who were, naturally, busy catching
snakes). He darted all over the campsite, searching for bugs, hauling
his camp chair from place to place and otherwise causing destruction.
Every time Cam stopped to chat with someone from the ward, Charlie
bolted. He was caught on more than one occasion poised to throw a rock
into a crowd of fathers and sons. After catching him in the act of
tipping over a giant bucket of water balloons for the games, Cam took
Charlie on a little hike.
He stopped every few feet to feel the
dirt and throw a handful or two. He was furious at the injustice of
having to hold hands at the steep places. Nevertheless, he arrived home
completely filthy, exhausted and very happy.
Dad made up for the short camping trip by setting up camp in the backyard.
